I'm genuinely sorry that I had to make a smartphone joke. I haven't found a way to write it without cringing, but everytime I thought about getting rid of it, I couldn't find another way to communicate the same idea effectively. 

Amusingly, I created this character in 2012 when I was 17 and we actually had to make the distinction between "smartphones" and "cellphones" (for example, I didn't get a smartphone until...well...probably the end of 2011). Technology and social media has changed drastically since I wrote Leo's original backstory, so now I actually have a lot more trouble writing him than I did in the past. 

But yes, I was forced to acknowledge that for Leo, the most disturbing thing about Pleasant Oaks would be the lack of smart devices.
